No situation can hinder someone who values education. Neither financial struggles nor old age can stand in the way of a person with high aspirations and determination to graduate. Delayed or interrupted the journey may be, what matters is not giving up but persevering.
This was proven by a senior citizen, Davy Matugol, who successfully completed his college education with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Mindanao State University-General Santos.
His achievement has inspired not only young students but also individuals like Tatay Davy, who, despite his age, never abandoned his long-held dream. Through his hard work, he has now finally achieved his goal of earning a diploma.

The elderly man admitted that the hardships he faced were far from easy. However, one thing was certain for him—never giving up on any challenge or trial in life. He said his strong foundation of self-belief and unwavering trust in his ability to achieve what was once just a dream kept him going.
He said on his Facebook post, “I am 66 yrs old, but as they say, age doesn’t matter especially if you have a great vision in life.”
Using modern technology, such as a cellphone for their online classes, was also a significant challenge for Tatay Davy.
Many netizens who came across his story felt happy and inspired, celebrating Tatay Davy’s sweet victory. This was one of his aspirations—to inspire all students and emphasize the importance of education.
“Finishing a degree at this age, I hope I am able to encourage and inspire everyone to finish their studies despite their age,” he said.
“If I can do it, all the more to young people like you reading this,” he emphasized.

Two years later, Lolo Dave is probably 68 years old and is already putting into practice the degree program he completed in college.
Not only did he provide true inspiration to fellow students who are struggling in life, but he also proved to everyone that “poverty is not a hindrance to success, and age is just a number if your vision is so much bigger.”
