A deputy sheriff in Wisconsin, U.S., came to the aid of a 10-year-old boy who called 911 because of his Math problem.

The unusual incident was shared by the Shawano Sheriff’s Office on its official Facebook account on November 19, 2024. According to the post, the child explained that he sought help because he had no one else to turn to.

“Last week, Deputy Mason responded to an unusual 911 call. This call came from a 10-year-old who called to say that he needed help with his math homework. He stated his family ‘wasn’t very good at math either’ and he needed help.”

“Although Deputy Mason in his report indicated ‘personally, I am also not overly proficient when it comes to math, but nonetheless, I responded to assist.’ With the help of Deputy Mason, they were able to work together and solve the decimal related math problems.”

“Our young caller was provided a business card and was told we are always here to help, except next time he should probably use the non-emergency line if it’s not a life-threatening situation.”

“A great teaching moment for all. Thank you, Deputy Mason, for taking time out of your day to be a friend to this young man!” it said.

Although unusual, dispatcher Kim Krausena still went to assist the boy with his Math assignment on decimals. Despite coming to the rescue, the question remained unanswered. However, Krausena reminded the boy that 911 is not intended for homework assistance but for more “life-threatening” emergencies.

Netizens were delighted, with many saying they were grateful to finally read some feel-good news. Many pointed out that solving a math problem is an “emergency” for a child.
