A female elementary school teacher from a public school in Pampanga was featured by DepEd Philippines for her dedication to teaching English and Mathematics, subjects that are often stigmatized as “difficult.”

According to a report by DepEd Philippines, via “Teacher Spotlight,” Teacher Irene often hears her students describe English and Math as a “nightmare.” She explains that for children who have yet to learn how to read, mastering English can be a challenge. Meanwhile, in Mathematics, they struggle to connect numbers and concepts to real-life situations, causing them to lose interest in the subject.

To help her students, Teacher Irene incorporates games, group activities, and other interactive methods to make learning more engaging. She tailors her lessons to meet the needs of her students, which has transformed their perspective. What was once a dreaded reading activity has turned into a confidence-building experience, and Math, which they used to avoid, has become easier and more enjoyable.
“Dati, bangungot ang English at Mathematics para sa mga estudyante ko,” she said in an interview.
“Hirap silang bumasa at takot sa mga numero. Nagyon, kaya na nilang magbasa nang mag-isa at nasisiyahan na silang magbilang!”
“Ang sikreto?”
“Kilalanin ang mga estudyante, gawing makabuluhan ang mga aralin, at siguraduhing masaya ang kanilang learning experience,” she emphasized.
