The viral student and sampaguita vendor has broken her silence after the security guard she had a conflict with was dismissed from his position.

According to an ABS-CBN News report on Saturday, January 18, 2024, the so-called “Sampaguita girl” expressed her desire to apologize to the said guard.

“Gusto ko po humingi ng sorry sa kanya, and at the same time hindi ko po ginusto na matanggal siya sa trabaho,” the 22-year old Medical Technology student said.

It can be recalled that the video captured by a netizen caused a stir, showing what appeared to be a violent eviction of a sampaguita vendor by a security guard. The vendor was seated in front of a popular mall in Mandaluyong City at the time.

Following this, the management of the said mall released an official statement confirming that the security guard in question had been dismissed from service. They also stated that he would no longer be allowed to work at any of their branches.

The security guard is also reportedly at risk of losing his license after the Philippine National Police (PNP) Civil Security Group launched an administrative investigation regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, the management of SM Megamall released a statement on Thursday, January 16, 2025, expressing their sympathy for what the child experienced at the hands of their employee.

“We regret and sympathize with the young girl who experienced an unfortunate incident outside our mall,” they said.

They further stated that the security guard had already been dismissed and would no longer be allowed to work at any branch of the said mall.

“We have called the attention of the security agency to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation. The Security Guard has been dismissed and will no longer be allowed to service any of our malls,” they added.
