Jefjef’s journey in a nutshell
The story of Efren “Jefjef” Cordez is truly inspiring, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering from Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology last July 5.
He is now a licensed engineer, having passed the October 2024 Electronics Engineering Licensure Examination held from October 19 to 20.
Cordez also ranked Top 3 in the October 2024 Electronics Technician Licensure Examination, which he took on October 21.
Had no initial plan for the degree
Featured on the Philippine Entertainment Portal or PEP, Jefjef revealed that he initially had little interest in his degree program.
He originally planned to pursue Chemistry or Chemical Engineering but, as the youngest in his family, followed their advice to study at nearby schools offering accredited courses.
Balancing limited resources
Like many college students, Jefjef’s primary challenge was financial. However, his family faced an even more devastating blow after the pandemic—his mother passed away in an accident.
Despite the immense pain, Jefjef chose to persevere, determined to fulfill his mother’s wish for him to graduate.
With the help of a scholarship, he managed to complete his studies. But the journey to his board exams presented new challenges.
Balancing limited resources, managing his daily review schedule, and completing final school requirements proved overwhelming at times.
Top 3 electronics technician
Jefjef admitted that he didn’t find the board exam particularly difficult. However, his motivation to excel stemmed from his desire to make up for not graduating with honors.
When the results were released, Jefjef couldn’t believe he ranked Top 3 in the October 2024 Electronics Technician Licensure Examination. He dedicated his success to everyone who supported and believed in him, especially his late mother.
Going forward
He also dedicated what he considered his “big win” to himself. For now, Jefjef is taking a break and recharging while planning his future.
His advice: “Mahirap talaga ang engineering at ang course na ECE. But as with any difficult matter, malalampasan mo rin ito kung malinaw sa iyo kung ano ang goal mo at kung ano ang mga dapat mong gawin to achieve that goal.”
Congrats, Engr. Jefjef!
